17.2, 19.2 and 21.2 channel surround sounds

The surround sounds mentioned here (17.2, 19.2 and 21.2) are based on starting with a 15.2 channel surround sound.  Once you understand it’s layout this becomes easy.

  • 17.2 channel surround sound involves adding yet another pair of left and right speakers (“front height speakers”) that sit really high up and aim down at you.

  • 19.2 takes a 17.2 channel system and adds another pair of rear speakers. These are also elevated and need to be aimed down at you.

  • Both the 17.2 and 19.2 can be added using the steps explained in the book: Customize Your Home Theater 5.1 channel to 15.2 and everything in between.

  • 21.2 takes a 19.2 channel system and adds another pair of side speakers which are elevated and need to be aimed down at you. In order to make a 21.2 channel surround sound please read this.
